I’ve been tagged by the lovely Louise over at Mummy Miller to complete the Bedtime Tag. Thank you! It’s fun to do something a little different and answer some questions, so here goes…
Describe your usual bedtime routine
We say we should go to bed and then don’t move from the sofa for ages, then eventually we go and brush our teeth! Our bathroom is downstairs and the other end of the house so I have to make sure I have everything before I go up otherwise it’s really annoying. We’ve gotten in the habit of watching an episode of Family Guy on the iPad and generally my husband falls asleep first and drops the iPad then we turn it off and actually go to sleep. I have no idea why we started that, I think about a year or so ago out of a need to watch something totally un-linked to real life so we could focus on something less stressful than how our day-to-day was and it’s just stuck! I often think about reading before bed but we only have one bedside lamp (we broke one in the move 6 months ago and haven’t bothered replacing it) and I never want to have to get up to turn it off so I just go to sleep when my husband turns it off!
What are your favourite pyjamas?
We buy new pyjamas for Christmas each year so my ‘Elf’ ones are high up on my list at the moment but my ultimate favourites are a pair of flannel pyjamas an American friend bought me one Christmas. They’re so snuggly and warm but sadly too warm to actually wear to bed so I generally wear them for the evening then have to change again for bed.
What is your current bedtime reading?
Currently reading a book all about organisations and how they work (just a little light reading) for me to chat through with my boss for work. But, I don’t often read much in bed, more during toddler nap times.
What would I find on your bedside table?
Our bed has shelves in the headboard so I have a random selection of stuff on my ‘bedside table’, including a hidden second of my little boy’s favourite bunny, a selection of books I keep meaning to read, my Bible and Calpol (for nighttime teething!).
What scent makes you sleepy?
I can’t think of a scent but watching CBeebies makes me sleepy, I often don’t know how I’ll make it through the evening when we’re watching the bedtime story just before 7pm!
What is your usual bedtime and wake-up time?
We’ve gone a bit wild and started staying up later after the holidays but generally in bed by 10.30-11pm. I always hope to be asleep by 11.30pm! Wake-up time is usually 7am. My husband gets up at 6.30am to go be showered before the little guy wakes up, usually between 7-7.30am but with all the teething and sickness we’re more like 6.30am at the moment.
What are your top three bedtime products?
I don’t really use any products!
A ridiculous number of pillows! My husband and I fight over who gets the fifth pillow to put between our knees (such a comfy way to sleep!), but last night we upped it to six pillows. Living the dream.
Water, for washing my face. I don’t wear much make-up so I just wash my face with water in the evening.
Moisturiser for my hands. Always trying to stop my skin from being so dry!
What is your most common sleeping position?
I start on my front then move onto my side and then my back.
Do you have anything you like to take to bed with you?
My husband. I used to get into bed (newborn days) and fall asleep instantly but I’m struggling at the moment, I think as I like to chat before bed! So, I generally wait so we can go together.
What is your worst bedtime habit?
Checking my phone before I go to sleep. We used to have a ban on electronics in the bedroom and would leave them downstairs but they crept in again during the breastfeeding days and we haven’t banned them again yet…
I tag Reuben over at Dada’s Diary to complete the tag, he’s an old friend of mine and has just started blogging. Check him out!

We used to watch Family Guy before bed, we’ve stopped watching TV now as it ended up that we both fell asleep then I woke up in the middle of the night to turn the TV off!
